Update on Pending Legislation that Affects NH Employers

The House Labor Committee votes on Employer Safety Programs and Employee's Lunch or Eating Period. EMPLOYER SAFETY PROGRAMS: The House Labor Committee has voted 17-0 to recommend passage of HB 1587 with amendment. As amended, the bill would increase the employee threshold from 10 employees to 15 before requiring a safety program to be in place and on file with the NH Department of Labor. The full House will vote on the bill next week. EMPLOYEE'S LUNCH OR EATING PERIOD: The House Labor Committee has voted 11-4 to recommend passage of HB 1574 with amendment. As amended, the bill would increase from 5 to 6 the number of hours an employee may be required to work before being granted a ½ hour lunch or eating period. The original bill would have repealed the requirement that employees be granted a lunch period. The full House will vote on the bill next week. |
